Coolant facts
  • Coolant/antifreeze regulates engine temperature and prevents corrosion.
  • Old coolant becomes acidic and can damage water pump, radiator, heater core.
  • Manufacturers recommend flushing every 2–5 years or 60,000–100,000 km.

What is a Coolant Flush?

A coolant flush (or cooling system service) involves draining the old radiator fluid, flushing out contaminants and sediment with a cleaning solution or demineralised water, then refilling with fresh coolant mixed to the correct ratio.

We check for leaks, test the coolant strength, and ensure your cooling system is protected against overheating and freezing.

Fast quote: send make/model/year, your suburb, and when you last changed coolant (if known).

When do you need a coolant flush?

Old or contaminated coolant loses its ability to protect your engine. Look out for these signs:

Engine overheating

Coolant too old, low, or wrong mixture can’t dissipate heat.

Rusty / dirty coolant

Brown or murky fluid indicates corrosion inside system.

Low coolant warning

Frequent topping up? Could be leak or evaporation due to wrong mix.

Time / mileage interval

Even without symptoms, follow service schedule.

Coolant Flush Cost in Canberra

Price depends on vehicle, coolant type, and whether a simple drain/fill or full flush with cleaning is required. We use quality coolants (often OEM spec) and include a system check.

Typical range

$120 – $250

Most cars (coolant + labour)

Extras (if needed)

How often should I flush my coolant?

Most manufacturers recommend every 2 to 5 years or 60,000–100,000 km. Check your owner’s manual. If the coolant looks rusty or murky, it’s time for a flush regardless of interval.

Can I just top up coolant instead of flushing?

Topping up is okay for minor top‑ups, but it doesn’t remove contaminants. Over time corrosion particles build up and the additives break down. A full flush restores corrosion protection and cooling efficiency.

What coolant do you use?

We carry a range of coolants: IAT, OAT, HOAT, and manufacturer‑specific types. Before refilling we check your vehicle’s requirements and use a refractometer to ensure the correct mixture (usually 50/50 with demineralised water).

What happens if I never change coolant?

Old coolant becomes acidic and can corrode the radiator, water pump, heater core, and cylinder head gasket. It also loses its ability to prevent freezing/boiling, leading to overheating and potentially severe engine damage.

How long does a coolant flush take?

A standard coolant flush usually takes around 45–60 minutes. If the system needs extra cleaning or we find issues like a stuck thermostat, it may take a little longer. We’ll advise you on the spot.

Keep your engine cool with regular coolant maintenance.
