TX Valve Replacement Canberra – FAQs

Answers to common TX valve questions from our mobile technicians in Canberra.

A thermal expansion valve (TXV) meters refrigerant into the evaporator. It adjusts flow based on temperature/pressure so the evaporator cools efficiently without freezing. When the TXV can’t regulate flow correctly, cooling becomes weak, inconsistent, or the system ices up.

A TXV stuck closed often causes little/no cooling and low refrigerant flow (low-side pressure very low). A TXV stuck open can cause evaporator icing, poor control of vent temperature, and abnormal pressures. Accurate diagnosis requires pressure readings and temperature checks, because similar symptoms can come from low refrigerant, a blocked drier, or compressor issues.

A regas helps only when refrigerant is low (usually from a leak). If the system has correct charge but cooling is still erratic, lines ice up, or pressures are abnormal, the TX valve may be the root cause. We normally test pressures, vent temperature, and system performance before recommending parts.

Yes. We replace required O-rings/seals during TX valve replacement, then vacuum-test the system before recharging to specification. Fresh seals reduce leak risk and help keep moisture out of the A/C system.

Most vehicles take about 2–4 hours depending on access. The job includes refrigerant recovery, component access, TXV replacement, vacuum/leak test, and recharge. Some models can take longer if the valve sits behind the dash.
